Michter’s Fort Nelson Distillery

Michter’s Distillery engaged Schaefer General Contracting to renovate the historically and architecturally significant Fort Nelson Building, the first stop on the Urban Bourbon Trail in downtown Louisville’s Museum Row.

An aggressive construction schedule of just nine months was required for the interior demolition and renovation of this 12,000 SF bourbon experience center and distillery.

Additional challenges included an interior stairwell rebuild and elevator installation. Existing materials were reclaimed and reused for flooring and wood beams, while the original windows were rebuilt and reinstalled. Through a collaborative effort, the design and construction teams achieved cohesive progress, addressing each challenge in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible.
