Michter’s Distillery
Restoring a Legend
For the Michter’s Distillery project, Joseph & Joseph Architects and Schaefer General Contracting have teamed up and are in the process of renovating the historically and architecturally significant Fort Nelson Building at 801 West Main Street located in Downtown Louisville’s Museum Row.
A tight, 9-month turnaround is required for the demolition and renovation of this 12,000 sq. ft. soon-to-be visitor’s center and micro distillery. Additional challenges include an interior stairwell rebuild and elevator install. Existing materials have been reclaimed and reused for the flooring and wood beams, and the original windows are being rebuilt and reinstalled.
A collaborative effort by the owner, architect and subcontractors has allowed for cohesive progress in tackling each challenge in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible.
