Built in 1920 and operating as a theater until 1950, the Hilltop Theater
received a new lease on life with a $1 million restoration/renovation. The
Theater became a home for a cocktail bar and restaurant, Red Herring,
so the building’s facade was restored to its original form as closely as possible.
Schaefer’s scope of work was to restore the front face of the building
to the original 1920s facade, including restoration of the plaster ceiling.
Schaefer also built a new structural wall in order to support the third-floor
storage area. The restoration of this 4,500 sq. ft. space took Schaefer
eight weeks to complete.
This project included restoration of the building’s original theater marquee
and the original coffered entry ceiling, including pendant lighting
and decorative crown molding. Schaefer replaced the original incandescent
light bulbs with energy-efficient LED lamps. This project included

and glass doors, to complement the restored theater entrance. The original
