Center for Women and Families

Schaefer successfully executed a fast-track renovation for the Center for Women and Families after severe weather caused extensive roof damage, forcing residents to evacuate the 70,000 SF facility. The $3 million project, completed in just seven months, focused on critical infrastructure upgrades, including a new roof, updated HVAC, and electrical systems.

Beyond repairs, Schaefer improved the facility’s functionality and capacity, increasing shelter accommodations from 76 to 79 beds and reconfiguring the layout to better serve residents. Enhancements included larger suites for families, additional gender-neutral restrooms, expanded staff meeting spaces, a dedicated second entrance for clients, and a pet-friendly room. A revitalized cafeteria now features booth seating, while a new computer lab and large group rooms create more opportunities for learning and community support. The basement was also transformed into multipurpose training rooms, available for both the center and external organizations.

Through careful planning and execution, Schaefer delivered a safer, more efficient, and welcoming space, ensuring the Center for Women and Families can continue its vital mission of support and empowerment.
