Building Confidence Through Safety: Construction Safety Week 2026

At Schaefer General Contracting, Building Confidence starts with protecting the people who build our communities.
Throughout Construction Safety Week 2026, our teams across jobsites and offices reinforced one of the most important responsibilities in our industry: creating and maintaining a culture where safety remains at the center of everything we do.
Led by Safety Engineer, Bart Adkins, Schaefer’s Construction Safety Week initiatives focused on this year’s theme, Recognize. Respond. Respect., reinforcing that safety is not a one-time conversation or checklist item, but an ongoing commitment requiring leadership, communication, accountability, and participation from every person on the jobsite. Because at the end of the day, our goal is for everyone to get home safe.
Recognize. Plan. Respond.
Throughout the week, Bart worked closely with our field leaders and project teams to emphasize the importance of early hazard recognition, proactive planning, and maintaining strong communication in the field. From daily safety talks and pre-task planning to OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls, our teams took time to pause, reassess conditions, and reinforce safe work practices across every phase of construction.

Conversations throughout the week emphasized fall prevention, Stop Work Authority, open communication, and the shared responsibility every person on the jobsite has in maintaining a safe working environment.
At Schaefer, safety leadership starts in the field. Strong planning, communication, and accountability are critical to preventing incidents before they happen.
Safety Beyond Safety Week
While Construction Safety Week creates an opportunity to expand industry-wide conversations, at Schaefer, safety is an everyday practice.
As Safety Engineer, Bart Adkins, continues to lead that effort across the company by reinforcing proactive safety planning, field accountability, education, and ongoing support for our teams and trade partners.
As Bart shared with our teams during Safety Week:
“Our responsibility as safety leaders is never over. We must continue to educate and lead the way in today’s construction industry.”
That mindset drives Schaefer’s approach to safety culture. From daily Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and site inspections to orientations, pre-installation meetings, and open communication in the field, our teams remain focused on preventing incidents before they happen.
Bart also reminds our teams that complacency can never become part of the process:
“All accidents are preventable, and we as a team must utilize all resources available to us to prevent accidents and injuries.”

Building a Culture of Care
Beyond jobsite compliance, Schaefer’s approach to safety is deeply rooted in caring for people.
Earlier this year during Heart Month, Bart led CPR recertification training for Schaefer superintendents—equipping field leaders with the tools and confidence to respond during emergencies. With certifications including Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association and STOP THE BLEED Instructor through the American College of Surgeons, Bart continues helping strengthen preparedness and emergency response across our teams.
From education and prevention to planning and accountability, safety at Schaefer is built through consistency and shared responsibility.
We’re proud of our teams, trade partners, and field leaders for continuing to lead by example and helping Build Confidence through safer jobsites every day.
